Details

I have known Hans Rudolf since my birth, as his parents were our landlords at that time.
In our youth, we played together in a jazz band before our paths diverged for many years.

After a long period, we found our way back to one another. By then, Hans was working as a timpanist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Trier, while I was active as a composer. Our reunion resulted in a first major collaborative project in Japan, realized together with his wife, Sakiko Idei.

Somnambul is now our second joint project, created in collaboration with Sakiko and Michael Zeller, who together form the Fourschlag Percussion Ensemble. This project was considerably more extensive and time-intensive than the first, yet it was equally marked by enjoyment and a strong spirit of collaboration.

The piece was selected as a finalist from among 297 submissions for the Moliner International Percussion Composition Award and also led to my admission to David Moliner’s International Academy of Musical Praxis for composers.
