I received a phone call:
"Peer, we're performing The Soldier's Tale by Igor Stravinsky, but the piece isn’t long enough to fill an entire evening with the same ensemble. Could you please write some additional arrangements for the same instrumentation?"
"Of course," I thought — and ended up writing a total of seven arrangements for the same ensemble: clarinet in A/Bb, bassoon, trumpet/flugelhorn, trombone, percussion (including vibraphone), violin, and double bass — all based on well-known works.
